We founded Ugliduck to offer our many years of leadership experience in the business, education and voluntary sectors in practical ways, to help others.

We each bring our unique experience and a confidence in each others talents and integrity. We have all faced major challenges in our lives and understand that living a dream is not easy.
This is particularly true for so many people who try to participate on our uneven playing field. Moreover none of us ever know what is around the corner.
We can draw strength from what we have done and from seeing the way that other people meet their own challenges.
Every single dream needs a helping hand and Ugliduck asks to be part of that.

Why the Swan?
Our name comes from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Ugly Duckling — the story of a young bird rejected for being different, who grows into a beautiful swan.
It's a story about self-acceptance and transformation. About being underestimated, overlooked, or written off — and then proving that every life holds extraordinary potential.
That idea sits at the heart of everything we do. We believe that with the right support, encouragement and opportunity, every person can discover and fulfil their own potential.
